I’m Sandy, a fellow MS warrior and nutritionist. When I was first diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, I was overwhelmed by fear, confusion, and uncertainty. I didn’t know what my future would hold, and I certainly didn’t know how to manage the symptoms that were quickly becoming a constant in my life.
My doctor told me about Copaxone, a disease-modifying drug that would need to be injected daily by myself and—most alarmingly—was the cost. I felt like I was choosing between the lesser of two evils: dealing with the unpredictable progression of MS or living with the potential side effects of this powerful medication. I started Copaxone and it wasn’t long before I began to notice the side effects.
My energy levels plummeted, and I began to feel more like a shell of myself than the active woman I used to be. By day 7, my anxiety was so bad I didn’t want to leave my house. How was this okay? I knew there had to be another way—a better way to take control of my MS without sacrificing my quality of life.
That’s when I began my journey into nutrition and all natural supplements. I spent countless hours researching, experimenting, and learning from others who had walked this path before me. I went back to school, became a nutritionist, and learned everything I could about food, inflammation, and the immune system.
Over time, I developed a simple, step-by-step plan that changed everything for me. There are a lot of misconceptions out there about how to manage multiple sclerosis. Society, and even the medical community, often tells us that medication is the only way to control this disease.
